Devlog: MaX Farm Major Update & Steam Page is Now Live!
Hi everyone 👋
Let me start right off with some exciting news:
🎉 The Steam Store page for *MaX Farm* is officially live! 🎉
👉 Check it out and Wishlist here

If you see potential in this game, please consider adding it to your Wishlist! This is the absolute biggest support you can give a solo indie developer, and it helps more people discover this imperfect but heartfelt project.
I've been grinding hard lately, giving the game a complete overhaul. Without further ado, let's dive straight into the major updates:
Building Mechanics Overhaul: Water-Based Automation
I’ve made a really cool adjustment to the building system. Automation machines are now designed as water-based structures! You can place them directly on the water, aligning with the river's flow to keep them running. This not only makes water resource management much more intuitive but also makes the overall farm operation feel more dynamic.

UI Complete Revamp & Improvement
To provide a more comfortable visual and interactive experience, I’ve completely rebuilt and polished the game's UI. The new interface is much cleaner, better looking, and easier to navigate.
Save System Optimization
I’ve refactored and optimized the save logic. Your farm data is now much safer and more stable—say goodbye to mysterious lost progress!
Tutorial Rework
The tutorial has been fully optimized and updated. Now, starter seeds are added directly to your inventory at the very beginning. This solves that confusing "what do I do first?" or "how do I unlock continuous planting?" feeling for new players, helping everyone get started much faster.
Mutation Mechanics Optimization
Adjusted the underlying logic for plant evolution and mutation. The mutation triggers are now much smoother and make a lot more sense.

Sneak Peek at New Mechanics: Traits & Build Synergies
Eagle-eyed players might notice that crops now have a chance to trigger mysterious "traits" (affixes) when they mutate in the current version.
Please note, this is NOT a bug! This is a sneak peek at a brand-new core system I’m building for the full release: Every time you plant, you can roll for random passive traits. You’ll be able to freely mix and match these traits to create your own unique builds, triggering massive chain reactions that fill the screen with gold! I’m only dropping a tiny bit of this as an easter egg for now. Please look forward to the full, deep Roguelike experience in the official release!
Other Pain Point Fixes
- Goodbye Lag: Completely fixed the severe frame drops caused by running auto-collectors and other buildings that players reported. Large-scale farming should stay smooth now.
- Localization & Language: Fixed a large amount of untranslated text and UI misalignment from the previous version, and improved translations across multiple languages.
Current Version Progress Note
To ensure the best possible final experience, the current playtest version will only feature content up to the "automated planting" stage. More late-game buildings, deeper mechanics, and the complete game loop are currently in heavy development. They will meet you in the future official release, so stay tuned!
💬 Dev's Heart-to-Heart: From Doubt to Rebirth & 🎁 Special Thanks
Do you remember how nervous I was when I released that "half-baked" prototype last time? As a solo indie dev, I fell into a deep state of self-doubt and burnout for a while, and almost shelved this project entirely.
But your feedback pulled me back! Seeing the long reviews you all left—whether it was confusion about early-game goals, complaints about frame drops, or validation and encouragement regarding the core gameplay loop—helped me find my direction again. It’s your support that has kept me going this far.
About expressing my gratitude:
If you are willing, I would love for those of you who deeply played the Demo and left detailed reviews to please DM me or shoot me an email at 15057114672mgx@gmail.com whenever it’s convenient for you.
I really want to thank you personally, and I plan to send you a free Steam Key for the full game upon release as a token of my appreciation. If you don't mind, please give me this chance to express my thanks and get this little gift into your hands.
>span class="md-pair-s ">MaX Farm with me! Are the new water buildings comfortable to use? How does the new UI feel? Please keep playing and hit me with your valuable, unfiltered feedback!
Finally, don't forget to head over to Steam and hit that Wishlist button! 👉 Wishlist MaX Farm on Steam ❤️ See you in the game!

played a bit of the game, i love the concept of it and would like to make some clarifications for any other player confused at the start, you need to use the money you get from harvesting the trees to complete the first task, that unlocks the shop where you can get plants, the third task unlock continous actions (ie, click and drag) that makes it so you can bulk plant crops and collect them, canals consume water/s and give a growth boost to plants adjacent to them so long as they have water, this water boost can be increased by getting your total water higher, 100% is not the limit, water consumption goes down the higher your multiplier so you want to get to 750% water pretty fast so you can have channels constantly filled, the water also waters 2 tiles out at higher multiplier levels so you can have less channels, the price of crops increases really fast, but they also take longer to grow the more expensive they are, so its nice to have two tiers of crops, a fast growing one for spamming, and a really expensive one for mutation (they have a chance to produce a mutated seed that can then mutate again into the next plant tier), overall, really fun game, just wish that the plants had more interactions between them, instead of just a random chance of mutation it would be nice to have them interact with each other for mutations.
extra: the auto collectors are incredibly laggy for some reason, it seems the planters create much less lag so not sure why, but they kinda kill fps when you are massing crops
extra2: okay, beat the game, i really, really dislike it wiping out your farm when you win, i was going to unlock all the plants to check crafting but now i need to start over from scratch
"Thank you so much for playing and for taking the time to write such a detailed guide for other players! I'm truly moved and so glad you enjoyed the core concept of the game.
I've read through all your feedback carefully. Your thoughts on plant mutations, the FPS drop caused by auto-collectors, and the frustration of the farm wiping after beating the game are incredibly valuable to me.
Right now, I'm working hard on the next major update, heavily basing it on the feedback I've received from players like you. In the next version, I'll be introducing a brand new 'Affix/Modifier' system, a much more comprehensive and smoother automated farming system, and of course, fixing those annoying bugs and lag issues you mentioned.
It might take a little time to get everything polished, so please bear with me and stay tuned! Thanks again for your amazing support and patience!"
Ok I have played it for about 3 hours. Jotting down my first impression and opinions here.

It was an addicting game loop, very reminiscent of the old flash game style. It has a quick hook and cycle. I do feel that the addiction will wear off but so far it is paced pretty well with new stuff. The art is not distracting, i think it looks good myself. I think something that would really help the overall feel is some sort of NPC dialogue simulating people visiting your farm. Right now it has this eerie feeling of loneliness.
There is a lot of not translated stuff, so not sure whats going on with that, most of the time i could figure it out with the video. Was a little confused at the very start since i didnt realize that i needed to complete the first task.
Canals: using them constantly seems very costly. Not sure if it was intended but i did find that you could remove just one block of the canal connected to the water source and only put it back when harvesting, this stops it from leaking all your water but still saves you from having to till all the ground again. Later it did seem that the water was more manageable.
Buildings: it would be nice if i could upgrade or move existing ones, instead of removing and repurchasing.
Side note, so far the cash flow feels pretty good, i havent felt limited or like i have way too much cash at any point
Collection: not really sure how this works as of this comment, basically i just buy the amount from the shop and then give it to the collection to get the bonus? not sure if that is intended. I think maybe a better mechanic would be to not sell the mutated crops in the shop and only be able to get them from growing the regular crops, then the collection thing is just for mutated crops.
Also i am not sure how to get more stars, its possible i didnt make it far enough in the game yet
Crafting: took a while to figure out what it wanted cause i couldnt read the description but it looks like a lot of the rare stuff, i didnt have enough for anything it seems, what was the percentage for?
ha, just noticed the button in front of the water percent was to upgrade it, again its in a different language so i couldnt tell.
Here is where i stopped. I got the red cabbage legendary pretty early so was farming that (literally). I stopped just before the auto harvester for 3.2mil
as for the rollercoaster of motivation i have had a similar experience with my game. I have a few IRL gaming friends that I have asked to test it and it seems like pulling teeth for them to do it so it makes me feel like its not worth perusing. I think this game you have here is worth perusing, looking forward to what you do with it!
keep thinking about how to make it better, it could possibly turn into a great game.
Hi! I am blown away that you played for 3 hours! Thank you so much for such a high-quality and professional review. I read your comment multiple times, and it honestly made my day.
I really appreciate your suggestions on the mechanics. I am working on a patch right now to fix the translation issues and improve the gameplay based on your feedback.
Finally, thank you for sharing your experience as a fellow dev. It means a lot to me. I will definitely keep pursuing this project! :D
